Erasmus+ Youth Exchange "Rural Changemakers" in Bansko, Bulgaria

A group leader's report from an Erasmus+ youth exchange in Bansko, Bulgaria, bringing together participants from Serbia, Turkey, Italy, Romania and Bulgaria.

From March 22 to 29, I had the opportunity to represent my organization Open Educational Vibes as a group leader of Serbia at an Erasmus+ youth exchange held in Bansko, Bulgaria. This international experience brought together participants from Serbia, Turkey, Italy, Romania, and Bulgaria, creating a dynamic and inspiring environment for learning and collaboration.

The main focus of the exchange was youth engagement in addressing challenges faced by rural communities. Through a series of interactive workshops, group work and discussions, we explored innovative approaches to problem-solving and gained valuable insights into entrepreneurship. Working in multicultural teams allowed us not only to develop practical project ideas but also to strengthen our communication, teamwork, and critical thinking skills.

One of the most memorable aspects of the project was the intercultural evenings. Each country had the chance to present its traditions, cuisine, music and customs, offering a deeper understanding of cultural diversity. These moments created a strong sense of connection among participants and highlighted the importance of intercultural dialogue in today’s world.

In addition to the educational activities, we had the opportunity to explore the local cultural heritage. One of the highlights of the trip was visiting the Rila Monastery, one of Bulgaria’s most iconic historical and spiritual landmarks. Learning about its history and visiting its museum added an enriching cultural dimension to the experience.

Overall, this Erasmus+ exchange was not only an opportunity to gain knowledge and develop new skills, but also a chance to meet inspiring people and build lasting connections. Experiences like this empower young people to become active changemakers in their communities and beyond. I am truly grateful for the opportunity to have been part of such a meaningful journey.
